Apple blossoms have been a bit of a food craze for the past few years, and it’s not difficult to see why: they really are a show stopper! Alie Romano over at Bakingforfriends.com tried them out for herself and says that “they’re the perfect individual serving, not too heavy after a big dinner party.”.
These party pieces look stunning with a rich combination of buttery pastry, baked apple and creamy rum caramel sauce. Even better, they can be made ahead of time so you don’t have to stress-out while entertaining your guests. And did we mention they look beautiful?! …
These may *look* beyond your baking capability, but that’s the extra beauty of the apple blossom! They’re actually relatively easy to create. Alie gave us some invaluable tips! She says:
- Number One: Buy the right apple!! There are a lot of different apples that handle heat differently making some better for sauces, baking pies and for just plain eating. You want to look for Baldwin, Cortland, Empire, Fuji, Gala, Golden Delicious, GrannySmith, Honeycrisp, Jonagold, Mutsu (Crispin), Northern Spy, or Pink Lady (Cripps Pink) for this recipe.
- Keep the size of your slices consistent
- Soften the slices by lightly boiling them so that they don’t break apart.
