BUTTERING US UP
Homemade Pop Tarts
Pop Tarts take us right back to our childhood! Originating in the 1960’s, pop tarts have remained a firm favourite for kids – and adults – for decades. And while it’s easy to grab these sugary snacks off the shelf, we think that you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the simplicity of making your own. Combining fresh jam and homemade pastry, you can also experiment with creative flavours and fillings. For this recipe, we took inspiration from the baking escapades of Alie over at BakingforFriends.com. Alie says…
If you liked pop tarts as a child, you’re going to love these homemade pop tarts as an adult!! Better yet make them for your kids instead of buying those sugary pop tarts from the store! You can customize the size and make them mini pop tarts that can be ‘popped’ into a lunch box. Your kid will be the coolest kid on the block (which will make you the coolest parent)!
That’s if we can manage to share of course…! Stirling Creamery Farmhouse Butter is the secret to making these pop tarts taste super special, by adding a creamy richness you won’t find elsewhere. After that, it’s up to you what jam you choose for the filling. Feel free to experiment and have some fun with the recipe. We love adding sprinkles!
Quick Tip: Make sure you use a thick jam rather than a runny variety as without a good consistency, the jam will run out of your tart and leave you with no filling. And we all know that the ooey-gooey filling is the best part!
